The Korsteel Stainless Steel jointed Pelham offer the combined action of both a curb bit and a snaffle. However, they have a more severe leverage action than a snaffle because they act on the jaw as well as the bars of the mouth.

The snaffle rein when attached to the pelham, assists in `lifting` the horse, whilst the curb rein encourages flexion. The longer the cheek bars of the bit, the more severe the action.
